Many diseases that had almost disappeared are making a comeback. Britain's National Health Service (NHS英国国家医疗服务体系) reported a big rise in the number of people with diseases such as tuberculosis (TB肺结核), cholera(霍乱) and measles(麻疹). The NHS said that TB happens more often in England than in some less developed countries. Tuberculosis is increasing across the world. In 2013, it killed 1.5 million people worldwide, and that number is rising. It mainly happens to very poor people. It is an infectious disease that makes the lungs weak. People have bad coughs, fever and lose much weight.
Researchers say that many of these diseases are both preventable and treatable. A big problem in England is that TB is making many old people ill and these old people do not have enough food to eat. The number of old people who don't have food has doubled over three years. A UK doctor said she did not understand why society didn't do more to fight TB. She said, "Malnutrition is preventable. It is totally unacceptable that…there are at least one million old people who don’t have enough food to eat or are not eating the right food." She said people should have better food and right medicine.
